Apple’s upcoming USB restriction may have already been defeated by Grayshift

Grayshift is the company behind GrayKey which is a small box that has lighting cables for connecting two iPhones at once and is able to break into iPhones through different passcode combinations or brute force to access information and is widely used by law enforcement.

In iOS 12 Apple has a restricted usb feature which requires that an iPhone be unlocked with a passcode when connected to a computer via USB if the device has not already been unlocked in the last hour.

Grayshift says “Grayshift has gone to great lengths to future proof their technology and stated that they have already defeated this security feature in the beta build. Additionally, the GrayKey has built in future capabilities that will begin to be leveraged as time goes on,”
