BBC iPlayer blocking VPN use

VPN users who access BBC iPlayer could find themselves greeted with the message “BBC iPlayer TV programmes are available to play in the UK only.”

The BBC has cracked down on the use of VPN’s to stop people living abroad from accessing their service as UK residents have to pay a TV license fee.

“BBC iPlayer is freely available to users across the UK without a VPN, and we also seek to ensure users of private VPNs such as those used by schools and companies in the UK have access.”

This ban however is also affecting people living in the UK who use a VPN service to stay secure online.
