Skin Reviews available for kodi are next up in Tasso’s Tips. While most will be for android, there will be some designed for AppleTV. Our first Skin Review will be the Black Glass Nova.
Black Glass Nova Skin
Ported from MediaPortal, Black Glass Nova is an easy to use and fanart oriented skin designed for full HD screens. The author of this skin is Tgx and the current version is 6.5.0, unfortunately, this skin does not work on Apple TV 2.
All of the skin reviews used Krypton v. 17.6. If this is the first time using your version of kodi please remember to enable unknown sources. This can be done by :
Click Settings (cog)
Choose System Settings
Toggle Unknown Sources
A warning pop-up will appear
“Add-on’s will be given access to personal data stored on this device. By allowing, you agree that you are solely responsible for any loss of data, unwanted behavior, or damage to your device. Proceed?” Select YES to continue.
Installing Black Glass Nova Skin
To access Skin:
In the home page, Click Settings (cog) located in the top left corner.
Hover your cursor over Skin, then move to the right and select the same.
Since most of you may not have it installed already as I have, move to the right and click on Get more… to continue. Locate the Black Glass Skin and click to install. It will take a moment or two for the add-on and it dependencies to install.
Once installed, there will be a prompt asking if you would like to keep this change. Select YES.
The photo above will be the next screen you will see, this is the System general page. To continue, select the back button on your remote; ESC key if using a keyboard; or right click on the mouse.
Home Page Menu Options pt.1
Due to there being Nine (9) menus, I’ve split these up into several photo combinations. These may not appear in the same order as you see here. Ok, I have to admit, it’s very hot here and I had a few beers while making this article and that’s the story i’m sticking to.
Photo A- Favorites- if you happen to save any movies or tv shows, etc. they will appear here.
Photo B- Weather- if you wish to have weather enabled, this will give you an idea of what to expect. Fairly straight forward, Location-Conditions-Temperature.
Photo C- Search- self explanatory.
Photo D- Power- under the heading of most of the home page menus are sub menus. Under power you will find; Quit-Minimize-Reboot-Shutdown-Hibernate-Suspend-Power Off System. As you can see, not all are Kodi related. These screenshots were taken from a PC so the options may differ on your device.
Home Page Menu Options pt.2
So these next group of menu’s will begin to be some of the most used, ending with System. However in this group above we have:
Photo A- Videos– Video Add-ons-Playlists-Update Video Library- Clean up Library- Files.
Photo B- Music- Recently Updated Albums-Recently Played Albums- Artists- Albums-Songs-Files-Library- Music Add-ons- Playlists- Top 100 Songs. Some of these will probably not be used as often as the others.
Photo C- Pictures- Picture Add-ons, Files.
Photo D- Add-ons- Video Add-ons- Playlists- Update Video Library- Clean up Video Library-Files.
File Manager Location
The last menu shown will be the most used of all we have shown so far.
Photo A- System- Skin Settings-File Manager-Profiles-System Information.
Photo B- File Manager. After selecting File manager in the sub menu, you will see the above screen. Select Add source to continue.
Once you have clicked on None, another screen will appear (lower photo) where you will have a keyboard to type in the URL source. When you’re happy that the spelling is indeed correct, click on Done. Repeat when asked to enter a name for the source file.
Here are a few screenshots I found in the Add-on information that depict just what some of the sub-menus can look like. I hope you have enjoyed what the Black Glass Nova skin has to offer. Give it a try and let us know what you think. For more information on other topics, please visit Here. Interested in creating your own skin ? Well here’s a good place to start.
