Facebook’s has released a new Apple Watch Apple today called Kit (Keep In Touch), the release which was first noted by TechCrunch comes alongside Facebooks messenger app which supports Apple Watch. Kit is the latest from Facebook’s internal R&D division, NPE Team, which tests out new app concepts and rapidly iterates.
The goal of Kit is to focus specifically on close contacts. To get started with the app, you first scan the QR that appears on your Apple Watch to link it to your Facebook account. You can then pick which Messenger contact you want to communicate with through Kit.
The app allows you to send a variety of messages with just one tap, including voice recordings, emoji, location sharing, scribbles and even dictation input — similar to how using iMessage from your Apple Watch works today. However, these messages are being sent over Facebook’s own Messenger service, not SMS or iMessage. Interestingly Kit is only available in select countries.
