OS X users are advised to be on the lookout if they use the BitTorrent client Transmission after cases of ransomware for Mac surfaced.
Apple has already updated its Gatekeeper security system however those who are already infected may find that after 3 days their hard drives become encrypted thanks to a version ‘KeyRanger’ malware. The malware then asks for payment to allow the user to decrypt the disk and access their data — the ‘ransom’.
Transmission is urgently recommending people upgrade to the latest version of its software, 2.91.
