HomePod won’t have Bluetooth connectivity and requires iOS 11

With the due for release on February 9th we are seeing more and more information coming out, unsurprisingly the HomePod requires  an iOS 11-capable Apple device for the setup process. HomePod owners will be using Apple’s stock HomePod app to set up their smart speaker, adjust its settings, install HomePod software updates, Airplay 2 at a later date and more.

iOS 11 brings a new setup process that when you bring your iPhone near the speaker to transfer common settings, like Wi-Fi passwords, Siri settings and more. Automatic Setup uses an onboard Bluetooth 5.0 for proximity information only and requires wifi to stream music via airplay for unsupported sources such as Spotify.
