What is a VPN ?

A virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network, and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network. Applications running across a VPN may therefore benefit from the functionality, security, and management of the private network.

A VPN is created by establishing a virtual point-to-point connection through the use of dedicated connections, virtual tunneling protocols, or traffic encryption. A VPN available from the public Internet can provide some of the benefits of a wide area network (WAN). From a user perspective, the resources available within the private network can be accessed remotely. (source)

Installing a VPN

This guide will show you how to install the IPVanish VPN or Private Internet Access(PIA) on your 2nd Gen Amazon Fire Stick, 1st Generation Fire TV or 2nd Generation Fire TV only. You can use the guide for other VPN Clients but you will need to find a link to the Android VPN client of your VPN service.

  1. Turn on your Fire Stick/FireTV.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Select System.

  4. Click Developer Options.

  5. Select Apps from Unknown Sources and turn ON & Select ADB Debugging & turn ON. You will now see a warning message regarding unknown sources. Select OK you can turn off unknown sources later but we need it on to install Kodi.

Select Downloader

Go back to home screen and Click Search.

  1. Type downloader and click it.

  2. Select the Downloader application.

  3. Select Get.

  4. When the download has completed you will see a notification in bottom right saying it is ready to launch and with the Menu Icon and Launch Now.

  5. Press your menu icon to launch. (the one with the 3 horizontal lines, if you miss that just launch it from Apps on your Home Page)

Select VPN URL

In the following screen, Select the URL section. As a result, you will now see a window that allows you to enter a URL. Press the select button on your remote and enter the following address http://bit.ly/ipvanishapk (for IPVanish) or http://bit.ly/piafire (for PIA) Or the URL from the VPN service of your choice. Click Next to continue.

Click Download and the apk will begin to download. Almost immediately, the install window will appear. Use your remote to highlight the Install button and select it. When the install finishes select Open.

Logging in to your VPN

  1. If using IPVanish, you will now see the login screen.

  2. Add your IPVanish Username and Password and select Remember Me.

  3. Once logged in there is a choice of Tutorial or Skip. If you’re familiar with it, you can skip this section. But if this is your first time, I would suggest you take a moment to familiarize yourself with the tutorial.

  4. That’s it, your all done.

In Conclusion

That is it, you can now connect to any of the servers in any of the countries that are available on your IPVanish account. IPVanish does not appear on your home screen so when you start your Fire Stick. If you want to open IPVanish and connect to a server you will need to do the following:

  1. Go to the Your Apps & Games section and scroll right to the end where it says See All.

  2. When the next window opens scroll down to IPVanish and you can open it from there.
