Why Apple needs more than a HomePod mini to save the failing product – opinion piece

With Apple rumoured to be announcing a new HomePod mini, we looked at what’s the biggest problem with the existing HomePod. Spoiler alert it’s not just the price.

I am a diehard Apple fan but also a technology fan in general and when Apple first announced the HomePod i was shocked at the price, however, by the time it came out i was ready to spend the money, i signed up for Apple Music and was ready to go.

The sound of the HomePod and in my personal experience it’s better than the Sonos speakers. I’ve enjoyed listening to music, News flashes and Podcasts on the HomePod. Unfortunately the let down of the HomePod is Siri it’s self.

Siri has a history of being behind when it comes to smart assistance and unfortunately the gap is growing bigger by the day. I’ve personally owned Amazon speakers and I currently own Google nest speakers as well and forth outshine Siri without a doubt.

Currently if I need Anything from a smart assistant apart from turning on and off my lights I head straight to the Google nest speakers instead of the HomePod because I know that I am more likely to get the result I need them if I was to use the HomePod it’s self.

Whilst a cheaper HomePod mini would be a great selling point Siri needs to be vastly improved if Apple wants to compete in the smart home market. I would happily trade more of my privacy if it meant that Siri could improve.

Both Amazon and Google continually release updates to their smart speakers in software and hardware and I’ve personally seen a vast improvement in my Google speaker setup since I first purchased them.
