YouTube plans to discontinue support for its dedicated Apple TV platform, meaning that third-generation devices will no longer be able to access the service. The video network has recently started to warn customers that the channel will be shut down as of next month reports 9to5Mac.
Though native playback ends in March, users can still stream YouTube content to older Apple TV boxes via AirPlay. Of instance, working around includes an iPhone or an iPad, far less simple than clicking on Apple TV and navigating to a dedicated channel.
Present Apple TV models, primarily Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K, are not affected by the move as they run TVOS and provide access to the App Store, where YouTube continues to sell the app.
